Your dog being destructive can mean something. It could be that they are left alone for too long, not getting enough attention or exercise, and are exhibiting the behavior as an outlet to let that pent up energy out. Here are some ways to prevent the damage to your home from escalating.

Spend Time and Play with Them

The simplest way to stop it is by actually sitting down and playing with them. Grab their favorite toy and play a game of fetch. You give your dog your full attention and they get the exercise they need while also having fun. This simple fix could minimize or stop them from excessive chewing or exploring stuff they’re not meant to.

Go Outdoors

Go on a walk with your dog or bring them with you on your next trip. They may just be longing for the outdoors that’s why they are being destructive. Put them on a leash and stroll around the mall or at a nearby park from your Lucerne Grand condo.

Encourage Independent Play

Invest in puzzle feeder toys to keep them entertained. If life gets too busy and you don’t have the time to play with them during the day, this allows them to be independent as they try to solve it, and be rewarded with a treat whenever they figure out how to release the food. It can also tire them out and maybe minimize the destruction your dog is causing at home.

Train Them

If you have tried everything but the disruptive behavior continues, maybe sending them to training or doing it yourself is the way to go. Teach them to not chew on furniture, shoes and other things that they could destroy at home. Do not run after them as it will give them the idea that you are playing with them, which only encourages them to do it more. When they do not chew your stuff at home, reward them with a treat or playtime, so they will think that it is a positive thing and reinforce the good behavior.
