Drunk driving is one of the leading causes of car accidents globally. A dwi lawyer is needed for help on these cases for a timely and satisfactory resolution.

Care is always required when you’re on the road, and technology can further reduce the chances of a drunk driving incident from happening. Here are several ways how technology can save you.

Modern In-Car Technologies

Car manufacturers are turning to technological advances to try and prevent drunk driving.

Various sensors are placed in vehicles in order to check the driver’s behavior, his or her facial signs and if a high level of alcohol is detected in their sweat. These devices are strategically placed within the car’s dashboard, shifting knob or steering wheel and can check if the driver is intoxicated.

By detecting erratic driving behavior, checking for alcohol in perspiration and monitoring the closing and opening of the driver’s eyes certain actions are completed. Manufacturers can make the car slow down and become immobile, send out an audible alert or tighten the seat belt mechanism. These can also be integrated into the smartphone and used in other ways, such as calling your emergency contact or sending out a notification for you to stop and get refreshed before going on the road again.

Using Preventive Apps

Apps can play a major role in drunk driving prevention. Perhaps the best example is using a rideshare app such as Lyft or Uber to get home safely and without having to navigate the roads with impaired reaction time. It’s convenient and beats having to wait half an hour or so for a taxi.

A breathalyzer app can show you if you have too much alcohol in your bloodstream. Based on the results, you can wait it out and get refreshments, such as water or food then driving when it’s safe to do so.
