Social media giant Instagram has begun rolling out its new fundraising tool to help users raise money for a personal cause.
The feature has gone live today on select regions in Ireland, the UK and the US. It’s similar to Facebook’s fundraiser program, which allows users to create a campaign right inside the social media platform. Donating to a cause can also be done without having to click an external link or post to a 3rd-party platform.
The list of personal causes include covering funeral or medical costs, educational supplies, tuition fees, helping a struggling business and funding a hobby or sports equipment. The full list can be viewed after updating Instagram to the latest version via your smartphone’s app.
Instagram’s fundraising tool will follow the same rules and guidelines as its Facebook counterpart. It shouldn’t be used to violate the Community Standards, fund political campaigns or sell items for donations. Only Instagram users aged 18 and above may create a fundraiser.
