A security camera or CCTV is unlike the camera on your smartphone as it’s mainly used for surveillance and keeping track of comings and goings in your home or place of business. Investing in online CCTV is cost-effective as it can protect you and your loved ones for a long time.

That said, here are three things you should keep in mind for proper security camera use.

Follow Installation Instructions

All reputable security camera shops on the web will provide instructions on how to best set up their CCTVs. Following the instructions and using the recommended tools reduce the chances of your device breaking even before you hook it up to a power system.

It’s best to follow installation instructions in the booklet that came with the product. If you’re not sure if you can install the item properly, get the help of a professional security camera installation.

Read the Manual

Some people think that the manual that comes with their electronic devices is not needed, but this isn’t always the case. Manuals provide the steps security camera owners need to complete the installation and use the parts that come with it.

It should only take you several minutes to figure out how to install your security camera. Along the way, there will be guidelines on what you can do and shouldn’t do. Some devices will have warnings that they aren’t waterproof, which means you should place them indoors.

Understand the Features

When shopping at a possible CCTV for your home or business, make sure that you read through the product description on the manufacturer’s website. It will list the features, such as wide angle view, IR and motion detection, and 2K resolution, among others. If you want a CCTV that can provide crystal-clear footage, for example, then you should opt for at least HD (1080p) resolution.
