Hot weather is becoming more chronic because of global warming. Injuries or illnesses may occur more often in these conditions and can be extremely serious. From mild and minor heat cramps to rapid heatstroke, be aware of these 4 essential tips to stay safe from these health risks.

Always Bring Water

Bring a big water bottle with you whenever you leave your condo at Amberwood at Holland. Water acts as a natural sponge in your body for heat; it collects all of the thermal energy and cools it down. And, while optional, it’s preferred to bring a stainless steel bottle to preserve cold water for a longer time, resulting in fewer sips, which helps with longer runs.

Stay in the Shade

Shade blocks direct sunlight, which can cool your body significantly and allows time for your body to compensate for the heat and lower back to its normal temperature. Consistent breaks in intervals of 15-20 minutes for water and shade are safest when doing heavy-duty exercise or work for almost guaranteed prevention.

Use a UV-Blocking Umbrella

While many people believe normal umbrellas are great for heat prevention, it is a common misconception. A standard umbrella doesn’t have thick material; it can’t absorb heat, and it protects only 5-10% of ultraviolet, making you feel worse than in sunlight! Search for sun umbrellas; their shade covers 50-90% of UV light depending on what you buy, and the shade you get is significantly and portably better than natural sources.

Stay Inside During Extreme Conditions

When the temperature outside is extremely high and seems risky, it’s much better and wiser to avoid it. Begin by closing all the windows and blinds, avoid using heat-producing furniture, and stay hydrated. By night, open your windows to allow absorbed heat to flow out and cool down your home.
