Getting better at recalling things is more than just brainwork- your lifestyle and diet has to fit into it as well. The good news is that there are many ways you can improve your memory, including playing games and active testing. Here are five activities you can do in the comfort of your own home at Boulevard Coast.

Play Memory Games on Your Phone

Memory games stimulate the brain and is great when done consistently and in short bursts. There are a lot of games you can download for free on your phone’s app store, and some are available as web versions. Over time, you’ll get better and notice how you’re recalling things at a faster rate.

Get Enough Sleep

One of the most important aspects of memory consolidation is sleep. Not enough can give you that ‘scattered’ feeling that pervades throughout the day. Deep sleep is particularly vital for converting short-term memories into long-term. So aim for 7-9 hours of restful slumber daily.

Exercise to Keep Blood Flowing

It may not make sense to exercise to improve your brain’s memory since they’re somewhat unrelated. However, being physically active increases blood flow to the brain, and with it several other benefits. Exercise is known to reduce stress and help you sleep better.

Don’t Multitask Too Much

To keep that ‘scattered’ feeling you should limit multitasking when you can. Focus on a single thing for 15-20 minutes rather than doing two things for half an hour or so. Limit distractions and take frequent small breaks when the task takes more than an hour.

Test Your Memory Often

This can be done by playing games or flashcards in a pinch. There are apps that let you read material and repeat yourself. Doing this strengthens your neural pathways more effectively than just reading.
