PC parts have more variety ever than before. People have also grown knowledgeable of each computer part and function. The choice is entirely up to us when choosing the suitable PC of our dreams. However, should we build our own or get a pre-built one instead?

When computers were first introduced to society way back in the late 1980s and early 1990s, pre-built PCs were the norm. No one knew how each part functioned, making it hard to build a customized PC. However, as we started to learn more about computers throughout the years, the preference for customized PCs has grown. Moreover, an entire hobby started of PC building.

If you’re planning to get into gaming, you might be thinking about which is the better choice. We’ll help you identify the advantages and disadvantages of each so that you can come to a conclusion. But, first, let’s start with pre-built PCs.

Pre-built PCs

As stated earlier, pre-built PCs were the norm back then, but it isn’t now. At a time when PC sales are on the rise and a reaching a steady pace of sales, pre-built PCs are leading the charge. There are various reasons for this.

Advantages

Convenience

When you’re looking for a suitable PC for you, and you’re not entirely knowledgeable about every part, chances are you’ll pick the right one in your budget. You’re also more likely to listen to what the seller is trying to sell you.

The reality is that pre-built PCs are way convenient than custom-made ones. All the parts are there, and you don’t have to wait for each component to arrive. Furthermore, if you want to pick something up from the shop and get into gaming all in one day, a pre-built PC is for you.

Tech Support

Here’s also another good advantage to pre-built PCs that everyone forgets about: tech support. Pre-built PCs come in with better tech support because each part is made from the factory. It’s easier to troubleshoot. The manufacturer is also quick to respond. If you ever get into trouble with your pre-built PC, you can rely on tech support to help you out.

Disadvantages

Aesthetics

Pre-built PCs won’t look the way you want them to look. Additionally, many manufacturers tend to skimp out on the chassis in an effort to make pre-built PCs more affordable. So pre-built PCs might not be the best-looking ones in the market.

Rigid Budgeting

Many pre-built PCs come at specific price points, and you can’t avoid that since you can’t change the parts for cheaper ones. You’re stuck with the retail price, and there’s not much you can do about it.

Customized PCs

Customized PCs are widely becoming more available to the market. Many retailers are willing to build a PC for you. In addition to them, you can also make ones through the Internet. Let’s talk about its advantages.

Advantages

Better Budget

Since you can switch certain parts for cheaper ones, you have better control over your budget. You can also choose to purchase used parts to make your PC a lot more budget-friendly. This option is the best if you want to have control over your budget.

It Looks Perfect

Another great advantage of custom PCs is that they can look the way you want them to look. For some, aesthetics don’t mean a lot, but if you’re spending over $1,000 on a PC, you might as well make it look the way you want it to look.

Disadvantages

Assembly Time

The assembly time for customized PCs can take you a whole day. It can even take two to three days if you can’t spend one full day building it. You’ll also have to wait for certain parts to arrive, so that’ll delay your build for much longer.

Parts Shortage

Currently, we are experiencing a serious GPU shortage. This can affect your overall assembly time and the cost of brand new GPUs in the market. The solution for this is to purchase older and used models instead.

Which is Better for Gaming?

It can be tough to choose the right kind of computer, especially when it comes to gaming. If you’re looking for the right gaming computer for sale, the choice is entirely up to your preference. However, if you’re looking for something more convenient and you’re not all that knowledgeable about PC parts and specs, then a pre-built PC is for you.

If you truly want a top-performing gaming PC, a custom PC build is for you. A customized PC is more flexible and can be tailored to suit your gaming needs. Moreover, budget gaming PCs are better when customized. You’re also more likely to get better-overclocking performance from your customized PC as well.

So there you go, the advantages and disadvantages of pre-built and customized PCs. If you want your PC to be perfect, we suggest you go for customized PCs instead. The investment of time into learning each PC part will make a difference in your PC and your life.
